Party Review: Lil' Louis @ Crobar Christmas Day

I'll start off by saying I didn't really know what to expect. I hadn't actually seen or heard Lil' Louis play since the 90's (seriously), but, I do remember him putting on a helluva show. I wasn't sure if he was gonna come out spinning the old-school but overplayed cuts, the extra-deep classics that u don't hear that often, or, if he had caught a case of "Knuckle-itis" and wouldn't play anything but new music. Provided there is some really good new stuff being made, but I like to have the party seasoned just right. It's not a house party if I don't hear some disco/funk, and ideally, there is a nice mix of the old and new. Lil' Louis did not dissappoint. He started the night off with a nice mix of The Police (Voices Inside My Head) which sounded really good because I hadn't heard that mixed at a party in a long time. I distinctly remember hearing Goody Goody "It Looks Like Love", Gloria Gaynor "Casanova Brown". By the time he played Massimo Barsotti "Whole Lotta Love" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Xqq6-OEhE) the place was packed, the party was at a crescendo and the crowd was in a frenzy! I must admit, I did not expect to hear "Whole Lotta Love". Also mixed in some nice new stuff. Elements of Life "Into My Life (You Brought the Sunshine)" ended the night.

As for the Crobar, the sound system was pretty good, could have been a little crisper. Other than the fact that they didn't open the doors until 10:45pm and had a crowd of people standing in the cold for up to 45 minutes, I had a good time. Actually I had great time. A merry Christmas indeed! 3.75/4.00 ☆ .
